Casandra Townsel, MSW,
Being able to make positive changes in life is essential for having the best life possible; something everyone deserves. At times, we find ourselves dealing with unresolved feelings of anxiety, fear, self-doubt, and trauma. Healing is possible. I believe that healing goes beyond the individual. I practice a healing centered approach. Healing must be addressed within the individual and their environment, and should include their cultural experiences, practices, and traditions, as well as their spirituality; this approach provides collective healing.
I practice a holistic approach to providing therapeutic care. I integrate components of the mind, body, and spirit within therapeutic modalities to address the needs of each individual or family. My approach is relationship-based and strength-based and relies on attunement with the individual. I have 21 years of experience working in the field of mental health and developmental disabilities. My experience also includes working with individuals and families experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, lack self-esteem and self-confidence, substance use, and trauma. I have specialized training in trauma-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and rational-emotive behavioral therapy. I am a huge supporter of brain-based treatment modalities which led me to becoming a Brainspotting Practitioner.
I am currently in supervision for LCSW licensure, and believe in providing a safe and nurturing environment that will breed hope and healing for each individual, couple, family, and community. I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a bachelor’s in psychology and obtained my master’s degree in social work from the University of North Dakota. I am a wife and mom of three and know the volume of joys, responsibilities, and stress that comes with these roles. I currently serve on the board of directors for Hygiene Clean, a 501c(3) that provide hygiene kits to the homeless population in the Chicagoland communities.
